News / Holy Guacamole
« on: December 08, 2018, 04:09:17 AM »
It's 2018, this site hasn't been updated in 5 years, and whaddaya know...

1) PIANO NO MORI IS LICENSED IN ENGLISH!!! Kodansha started releasing in October under the title Forest of Piano and 8 volumes have been released as of Dec 4th, check out the digital editions here~

2) Piano no Mori has aired the first season of an anime, with Season 2 coming in 2019!! Season 1 is available on Netflix so please do check it out (I have to watch it myself, haha)

In other news, the site has migrated web servers (yet again), and given the above changes I will actually attempt to make some efforts to revamp the contents on the site when I have time. But no promises (^▽^;)

News / Forum Change
« on: April 29, 2013, 09:55:59 PM »
The forums have been upgraded and a new modification installed to combat the spambots. Unfortunately, this has rendered the old layout obsolete. I will be tweaking the layout to fit with the upgraded version of the forum soon, so stay tuned for more updates!

News / Wow!
« on: April 24, 2013, 11:19:34 PM »
It has been a long time everybody! Almost two years gone to the wastelands, and Piano no Mori: Journey of a Boy is back once again. I've been off to all sorts of places, traveling Europe and whatnot, but I still love piano and I don't intend on giving up this project which I started near the end of high school. The site is still lacking in content, so I'll be hitting up manga forums for any fellow enthusiasts who might be willing to help contribute, and I WILL clear those spam bots out of the forums, promise!

Here's to a wonderful 2013 everyone, it's good to be back.

PS. Sad sad news, KEFI has closed down for good. :( A lot changes in two years, huh...

News / Happy 2011!
« on: February 10, 2011, 09:48:12 PM »
A bit late, but happy 2011 everyone! This site has been neglected for quite a long time, but from now on your webmaster has some more free time and will hopefully be renovating a little bit. To begin with, the content on the left might be rearranged a bit (mostly some of the stuff under "about" will be merged together), and hopefully more meaningful and well-organized content will be up in the information pages. In the meantime, if you haven't already in the past 4 months, hop over to KEFI and pick up the latest Piano no Mori chapter, chapter 72.5!

News / Stagnancy
« on: August 24, 2010, 05:13:02 PM »
Seems like KEFI has some timezone issues! Or is it only me getting the weird error at the top of the site? Still no Piano no Mori until goodness knows when, and again, here is the Amazon A-store for those fanatics who want the merchandise.

Happy August and a happy start of school to all! (For those of you that start in September, well - it's almost September. Close enough.)

News / For those who can read Japanese
« on: June 07, 2010, 01:53:47 AM »
Or those who simply want it, Ichinosekai.net has compiled its very own Amazon.co.jp A-store featuring all of the latest Piano no Mori merchandise! By which I mean, collected all of the Piano no Mori stuff on Amazon into one place so it's easier to find. This includes the Japanese tankoubons, the movie DVD, and various music CD compilations. Be warned though - Japan is a different region from America, so unless you have a Japanese DVD player (or a Chinese one, which is lazy and ignores region codes entirely), you might want to think twice about the DVDs.

Still working on compiling something similar for the Hong Kong and Taiwan versions. As Piano no Mori is not serialized in English yet, nothing equivalent will be available. For now, go read KEFI! Hopefully if this series becomes popular enough, some American company will notice it and take over the job. (I hope it's Dark Horse.)

News / Your webmaster
« on: May 30, 2010, 04:23:14 AM »
is currently in Japanland, and should soon be in possession of Piano no Mori vol. 17, currently available only in Japanese.

Not at liberty to reveal what happens, of course. Kai seems to have an interesting connection with Chopin. Wonder if he'll ever move on to Rachmaninoff or Brahms? Meanwhile, dear readers, please enjoy chapter 67 over at KEFI, though it seems like they won't be releasing any more for a while.

News / Chapter 66
« on: May 10, 2010, 07:25:15 PM »
Chapter 66 of Piano no Mori is out at KEFI (and has been for a while). For the first 48 hours it was an IRC-only release, perhaps a small reminder to all of you out there -- visit the IRC channels when you have a chance! Swing by #KEFI from time to time, even if you just lurk. It won't kill you.

News / Conversion Complete!
« on: April 28, 2010, 11:10:56 PM »
I know it may be hard to appreciate since the site looks exactly the same, but everything has been converted internally from bulky tables to CSS styling! Theoretically, the site now consumes less bandwidth and loads faster, though for a site this small, it really doesn't matter...

In more manga-related news, Onemanga has suspended all of the "mature" series from their site! To quote the mainpage:

We are sorry for the inconvenience during this time, but do understand that in the USA, there is very low tolerance for pornographic content on sites like OneManga that attract a sizable crowd of younger readers. If we do not do a sweep like this, OneManga may be closed forever.

Onemanga may be closed forever. Well, well, well.

My teacher mentioned the other day that it was hard to measure bestsellers in China because of all the piracy going on. I feel like that's how it is nowadays with scanlation -- everyone reads from sites like Onemanga or Mangafox, so no one group can tell how well they are really doing anymore. Not that I'm condemning them or anything. I read from Onemanga too. And hey, we're all "pirates" to begin with!

News / Go KEFI Go!
« on: April 28, 2010, 12:41:52 AM »
Chapters 64 and 65 of Piano no Mori are also now out and available for download! KEFI is on a roll.

In happier news, all of the Piano no Mori scanlations currently out are now available for download! A big thanks to KEFI for the permission. The website is still undergoing invisible renovation, so bear with me while I work on that. Perhaps when the invisible renovation is over, some visible tweaking will take place.

News / A New Chapter!
« on: April 17, 2010, 01:52:29 AM »
One more chapter of Piano no Mori (chapter 63) has been released by KEFI! Personally I really like the series once it moves past the childhood arc and into adulthood (or at least young adulthood), but of course I can't say the same for all readers.

Meanwhile, KEFI has granted this site permission to host their scanlations, in return for linking and crediting. Hooray! They shall be up in not-so-many days.

Beyond that, my design aesthetic has been praised and my untidy implementation chastised, so I shall be streamlining code and working in the nitty gritty realm of Where You Can't See for a while before getting back to any actual updating of content. But have no fear, it will get done. Eventually.

News / A Little Bit of Renovation
« on: April 05, 2010, 08:26:36 PM »
A brand new smankin' set of forums are now up for public usage, and news will be aggregated through an RSS feed from the news board from now on, instead of edited manually. Various other parts of the site are being updated as we speak, hopefully for the better.

During this long absence, Piano no Mori has progressed! The 16th volume came out in 2009, right on schedule, and has since been made available in both Taiwan and Hong Kong. The 17th volume came out in Japan just two weeks ago, on March 23rd, 2010, and the series continues to be serialized irregularly in Kodansha's Morning magazine. The full set of volumes 1-14 may be purchased on Kodansha's website for only ¥7650, or about 80 US dollars. How will Kai do in the International Chopin Competition, I wonder...?

edit: Small updates. As you can see, the RSS feed has been successfully integrated and all that remains is formatting and old newspage cleanup.
